Sean is a qualified Sports Massage Therapist who is based in SMART Training, Churchtown. Sean has worked with many professional athletes. He is currently supporting Leinster Rugby’s senior and academy squads and has also worked with the Ireland, Great Britain and Australia Tag Rugby squads as well as Corinthian Hockey Club.

While Sports Massage is an important part of most athletes training and preparation programme for competition, it should also be an integral part of your recovery. Sports massage is great for alleviating general “aches and pains” as well as bringing more flexibility to over-tight muscles. We recommend that all of our clients, regardless of their goals get a Sports Massage once a month or at least during periods of tired tight muscles. Regular Sports massage offers many benefits to our SMART Training members.

As we always say in SMART Training nutrition is the key to recovery  and regaining your bodies optimal state. A Sports Massage can speed up the recovery process exponentially, and you can certainly feel the difference. Deep massages help increase the permeability of muscles, which makes it easy for them to absorb the nutrients and fluids from the bloodstream.

 

2. Improves Muscle Tone

Sports massage also has a positive impact on the muscle tone. Damaged or tight muscle tissues do not hold blood well and diminish your muscle tone. Sports Massage will help push the fluid through blood vessels and lymph nodes.As the lactic acid clears out, it makes way for the blood to flow in. The improved permeability implies a better blood holding capacity of the muscles. The muscle tone improves, and your workout would prove to be more fruitful.
